A new blog platform was seen as a key part of that strategy and would build on their already popular blog. five one two were asked to help develop an international, multilingual blog platform which would engage visitors but also give Wiggle complete flexibility to publish content on country- and global-levels in whichever languages were required.
five one two decided upon a WordPress system – well supported, highly flexible and possible to completely customise. We could also link it with a number of other components, such as Wiggle’s social media accounts.
Our designers created a new look and feel for the site, retaining Wiggle’s existing branding but also developing a flexible, friendly feel which allowed extensive use of the many photographs and videos Wiggle were able to introduce to their content.
Critical to the project was the multilingual element. Not only did five one two enable straightforward use of other languages and character sets, but we introduced an auto-detect system based on the user’s location and integrated a simple ‘switch’ system for people who found themselves in the wrong place.
SEO was an important factor, and the new blog system was designed with this in mind: content could be easily optimised for the most search engine friendly presentation and retail elements were also built effectively into the site.
Praise from the sporting press and customers has been high, and as a direct result of the project, sales and interest have risen significantly and the blog is now popular in 14 territories including Japan, China and Russia.
